OU soccer team plays Texas in their Kick for a Cure game Friday.

OU Girls Soccer Kick For a Cure

Students supported OU girls soccer and cancer research at the Kick for a Cure game against Texas Friday.

All the proceeds of the game including an auction of pink jersey's worn by the players at the game went to supporting cancer research. The soccer team has been doing community service with cancer patients for the past two years. The OU volleyball coach's son Javier just recently died of cancer so this game really meant a lot to the team and the entire athletic department, said Tiana Dickson public relations junior.

"Our team had been spending time with Javi when he was sick and receiving chemo, so this game really hit home for everyone, said Dickson".

The OU soccer team and athletic department will continue to support cancer research and remember Javier. The volleyball team is dedicating their game on Wednesday to Javier and his family.

OU Daily student leaving work for the night.

OU Daily Prepares Students for Careers in Journalism

The OU Daily offers jobs that allow students to excel in JMC classes and gain real world media experience.

The OU Daily is a student media organization that combines reporters, photographers and editors to deliver information that affects students. The newspaper helps students build connections with sources and media professionals, teaching students how to efficiently gather news and work under deadlines.

"After working for the OU Daily for over two years, it seems like I have such a greater understanding of proper journalism than I did in high school," said MJ Casiano, journalism junior. "I know that real newsroom experience for my entire college experience will entice interviewers".

Since the economy is at an all time low, students are having trouble finding jobs after they leave OU. With experience at a newspaper like the OU Daily, students have a better chance of finding jobs at newspapers after graduation.

Family Video Swaps Winning OU Tickets For Free Movie Rentals

Family Video has created a game day special offering free rentals to students if the Sooners win the home football game.

Family Video is a new movie and game store located on Classen and Constitution, within walking distance from Crimson Park and The Cottages of Norman. The new developments house many students and with a great location and good deals the store is very popular, said Chandler Shockey, psychology junior.

“We always rent movies on the weekends from Family Video because it’s cheap and so close. Last Saturday I went in with my ticket stub, claimed my free rental, and ended up getting four movies for six dollars,” said Shockey.

Family Video also offers specials for students on a budget like their rent three get one free movies along with a free membership with student ID. “If it keeps up these deals, I bet Family Video will be more popular than Blockbuster in no time,” said Shockey.

Have a Pie with Alpha Chi

Students enjoyed homemade pies and helped support the Women’s Outreach Center of Norman Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the women of Alpha Chi Omega’s annual Have a Pie at Alpha Chi fundraiser.

The Women’s Outreach Center is a non-profit agency supporting female victims of abuse, said Jordan Dinkins, public relations junior. Tickets were 4 dollars in advance and 5 dollars at the door with all proceeds benefiting the agency.

“It’s a great way to help the community, and no one ever complains about the pies!” said Dinkins.

Alpha Chi Omega had 1,200 people attend last year and raised over 12,000 dollars.

“We were all so happy with the amount we raised last year, and I’m pretty confident that this year we not only matched the amount, but exceeded it,” said Dinkins.

ZUMBA FITNESS CLASS ATTRACTS STUDENTS

More students than ever are joining the Huston Huffman’s group fitness this year with the addition of the Latin dance class ZUMBA.

ZUMBA is a 45-minute workout offered eleven different times Monday through Sunday to fit student’s schedules. Each class combines African rhythms with Latin dance moves to create a fun fat burning cardio workout.

“It doesn’t even feel like I’m working out,” Jackie Yoken, Human Relations Junior said. “After I went to ZUMBA once I was hooked, I got three of my roommates to sign up for a semester of group fitness classes. ZUMBA is my favorite but we go to kickboxing and Pilates too.”

ZUMBA is a popular addition to the Huston Huffman's group fitness schedule. Group fitness is continuing to expand by adding more classes for students looking for a fun way to exercise.

NEW CHIPOTLE iPHONE AP MAKES ORDERING QUICK AND EFFICIENT

Chipotle has introduced a new iPhone application that makes ordering easier than ever and cuts lines.

Students can now order their favorite Chipotle burrito anywhere with the click of a button. The application allows you to send your order directly to a Chipotle location where you go to pick it up when it’s ready.

“Sometimes I would drive all the way to Edmond to get my Chipotle fix, and now I can order my burrito in class and beat the lines,” said Claire West, Public Relations Junior.

Chipotle is in the process of opening a new location on campus corner, making it easy for students to walk from campus to the restaurant. With the iPhone application cutting the time it takes to order, students can grab lunch between classes with ease.
